Make Way for a Fuckload of Facts!

The Destin Trip was a blast. For a little while, I didn't think it'd come together. But, the closer we got, the more people became available to go.

Friday:
Our convoy left at 3:15am on Friday morning. It was me, Traci, Jeremy, James, Whitney, and Kavita all packed snuggly in the Durango. The trip down wasn't bad at all. We ended up arriving around lunchtime and checking in to one of our rooms soon after.

When Jared and Kennye arrived, we all journeyed through the "red tide" to eat at the Back Porch. When we got back to the room, we found that Derek had arrived early and had been trying to call us for a couple of hours. As the day moved on, I seemed to fade into a deep sleep as the other guys went out to the ocean and the women did whatever it is that women do. That night we all got cleaned up and went to eat at AJ's where we got the worst service available in Destin. We had to take turns guiding Jeremy since he lost his glasses in the ocean that day. The group then segregated again as the guys chugged Jaeger-bombs while trying to get the Xboxes going and the women did more of whatever it is that women do. Somewhere around this time Bryan and Heather arrived, but I had fallen into another one of those deep sleeps.

Saturday:
The next morning we awoke to find that James's swimming trunks had fallen off our rail and gotten caught on the rail directly below us. Since the room was vacant, we had no choice but to use our own means to retrieve his shorts. Unfortunately, our attempts were unsuccessful.

We suddenly realized that the women had gone off again, so us guys walked over to the Big Apple Bagel to get us some bagels. We were distraught to find that the bagel-getting place had closed for the season (and that the women had declined to give us a courtesy call so we wouldn't waste a trip), so we scouted out another bagel-getting place.

The group united for a day on the beach. We threw some football and some frisbee, and then I went and lost my wedding ring in the ocean. At this point it was Ocean - 2, Men - 0.

That night we all went to Marina Cafe, which was one of Traci's key points for going to Destin. Afterwards, the guys played more Xbox and then some poker as the women went out to see how many phone numbers they could get. The total tally was 6.

Sunday:
Sunday morning we had donuts and bagels at the condo. The women went shopping as the guys held down the fort and played more Xbox. We met up for lunch at Pizza Hut, then hit the beach again.

It was on this day that the ocean was unrelenting. I kicked a bar in the ocean and bruised my toe. Bryan dove sideways into a wave and perforated his eardrum. Derek and James had to swim for their lives when they got caught in a rip tide. The ocean had hit us hard. And it hit us where it hurt most. The Ocean - 5, Man - 0.

Then Derek and James went back out and braved the waves again so we concluded that they conquered the ocean and man was once again victorious blah blah blah.

Once Bryan returned from the emergency clinic, we went back to the Back Porch where Traci and I received some very thoughtful toasts from Whitney and Kavita and James (Derek had one too, but he gave it to us later in the evening). After dinner, the women drove back to the condo to catch Desperate Housewives and Grey's Anatomy while the guys hoofed it back via the beach.

We wanted to go to either the hot tub or the heated pool on our last night. We first attempted the heated pool, but we ran into a couple that was either crazy or high (or both) and Jeremy was nearly humped by the lady with an ugly sweater and tall boots. We decided that the hot tub was the better choice for us, so off we went.

The hot tub was indeed a better idea. We continued to enjoy the commodities until a security guard came and advised us to leave. We kindly complied and then he said that we could stay if we just kept the noise down. We were ready to leave anyways, so we scurried back to our rooms and rested up for the big trip home in the morning.

Trip Analysis:
There were many concerns about Hurricane Wilma interfering with our trip. But, we honestly haven't had better weather since we've been going to Destin. We didn't get any rain until we got back into TN.

All in all it was a great trip; our friends made all the difference. Hopefully we can do more trips like this in the future.

Items Lost in the Ocean:

Jeremy's Glasses
Bo's Wedding Ring

Toasts:

Whitney's & Kavita's Toast
We do declare,
Traci and Bo are a great pair,
Into matrimony they went divin',
Right after Hurricane Ivan.
One love music, one loves drugs,
But they end their days with kisses and hugs,
So, here's to a couple who causes no drama,
Mr. "What Would You Do" and Zeppelin's mamma.
